West Tanzania Sarari Itineraries
Trips to western Tanzania may be combined with visits to the other parks in Tanzania. Here are a couple of itineraries which highlight the diversity of Tanzania and the possibilities of combining a visit to Gombe Streams and Mahale Mountains Chimpanzee parks with a more typical safari.
Lodge Based Luxury North and West Tanzania 11 Days
Day 1: Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport. Transfer to the superb Arusha Coffee Lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Transfer by Safari 4x4 to Lake Ngorongoro Crater, picnic lunch, afternoon Ngorongoro Crater game drive.Dinner and overnight at E Unoto retreat.
Day 3: Morning crater game drive, game drive transfer to the Serengeti, optional visit to Olduvai Gorge early hominid museum, driner and overnight at Serengeti sopa Lodge.
Days 4 & 5: Full days exploring the Serengeti, based at Serengeti Sopa Lodge. Optional Serengeti Balloon Safari.
Day 6 : Morning game drive transfer to Lake Manyara National Park. Here you will see thousands of Flamingoes. Dinner and overnight at Migunga Forest Camp.
Day 7: Morning game drive, transfer to Arusha Coffee Lodge. Arrange through the hotel for a taxi to pick you up at 06.30 and transfer you to Arusha airport. Flight is at 07.30 Fly to Mahale. You will be met and transferred to Nkungwe Camp.
D8-10: Full Days Chimp trekking in Mahale Mountains National Park. Based at Nkungwe Camp.
D11: Breakfast and relaxed morning. Transfer to the airport for the flight to Arusha. End.
27 Days South and West - A True Adventure - Budget Accommodation
Day 1: Arrive in Dar, you will be met at the airport and transferred to the Mediteraneo Hotel on Kawe beach (Bed and breakfast only).
Day 2: Transfer by safari converted 4x4 to the Selous Game Reserve. Afternoon game drive. Dinner and overnight at Tembo campsite.
Day 3: Full day exploring the Selous. Afternoon boat safari. Based at Tembo Campsite.
Day 4: Pick up armed ranger, transfer to Lake Tagalala in the heart of the Selous. Visit to hot springs for picnic lunch and a swim. Afternoon game drive.
Day 5: Morning walking safari. Transfer to Mikumi where you will overnight at the medical center guest house.
Day 6: Full day exploring Mikumi, dinner and overnight at the medical center.
Day 7: Transfer by Safari 4x4 to Kisolanza Farm near Iringa (visit to Ismila Stone Age siteon route). Here you will overnight and enjoy superb afternoon birdwatching around the farm.
Day 8: Transfer to Ruaha National Park, here you will stay at Msembe Bandas (superb game viewing, elephants and giraffe walk between the huts!).
Day 9 & 10: Full days exploring Ruaha. Based at the bandas.
Days 11: Morning game drive, transfer to the Udzungwa mountains National park. After lunch you will visit the local village for a cultural tour. Dinner and overnight at Twiga guest House.
Day 12: Climb up into the Udzungwa Forests, hiking to the top of Sanje waterfall where you will camp. There are many endemic species in this part of the Eastern Arc including several primates. Swim in plunge pools and enjoy spectacular vies.
Day 13: Superb sunrise breakfast on top of the waterfalls, descend through the forest looking for monkeys and Turacos. Transfer back to Dar, to the Mediteraneo Hotel (B&B).
Day 14: Transfer to the domestic airport, fly to Kigoma. Dinner and overnight at the Lake Tanganyika Beach Hotel.
Day 15: Visit to Gombe Streams (via river taxi). Chimp trek after lunch. Overnight at the rest House at Kasekela Research Station rest house.
Day 16: Full Day exploring Gombe Stream. Camping just outside the park.
Day 17: Transfer to Kigoma. Based at the Lake Tanganyika Beach Hotel.
Day 18: Catch the 16.00 Mv Liemba to Lugosa. You will have a cabin on the boat.
Day 19: You will be met by a boat from the Park and transferred to your bandas at Kasiha within the park. After some sleep, a full day Chimp trekking. Overnight at bandas.
Day 20: Full day chimp trekking. Based at the bandas.
Day 21: Full day exploring Mahale, catch the park boat to Lugosa to meet the Liemba at 21.00. It may be up to 8 hours late!
Day 22: Arrive at Kigoma. dinner and overnight at the Lake Tanganyika Beach Hotel.
Day 23: Fly back to Dar, transfer to the Mediteraneo Hotel.
Day 24: Transfer to the domestic airport, catch the 10.30 am flight to Zanzibar. Here you will be met at the airport and transferred to the Sunset Beach resort on the superb Northern Beaches.
Day 25: Transfer to th Northern Beaches, B & B at Sunset Beach resort. Enjoy the white sand beaches and relax as the sun sinks into the blood warm Indian Ocean.
Day 26: Morning transfer to Stone Town for some final shopping, taxi (not included) to the airport to catch the 16.00 flight to Dar. Transfer to the Mediteraneo Hotel (B&B only).
Day 27: Early morning transfer to airport for your international flight.
