This itinerary is for a ten day luxury break and can be added to a standard Tanzania safari. The chosen resorts are all eco-friendly and have a very organic feel to them. They serve a wide variety of healthy meals, with seafood being a speciality. Combined with the water sports and plenty of sunshine, this makes for a very rejuvenating experience.
Itinerary Breakdown
Day 1 - Transfer from Zanzibar Airport to Mbweni Ruins Hotel, just outside of Stone Town. In the afternoon there will be an optional walking tour of Stone Town followed by sunset drinks and a delicious dinner.
Day 2+3+4 - After breakfast a boat will take you from Mbweni out to Chumbe Island Coral Park, an exclusive eco-friendly resort. Spend the rest of the day exploring this unique location. The pristine coral is a marine sanctuary (only snorkelling is allowed). After dinner you can join a ranger for a short walk in the forest to look for the huge tree-climbing coconut crabs. There are only six bandas on the island, making it an ideal getaway.
Day 5+6+7 In the morning you will return to mainland Zanzibar for a flight transfer to Mafia Island, where a vehicle will be waiting to transfer you to Pole Pole Bungalow Resort in time for lunch. A number of excursions can be arranged including diving and game fishing. The snorkelling possibilities are some of the finest in East Africa as many of the reefs lie in shallow water. It is also possible to hire bikes and go on a cycling tour to places of interest on the island.
Day 8+9+10 - Flight back to Zanzibar, where you will then transfer to Ras Nungwi Beach Resort on the morthern tip of the island. The resort provides a range of watersports, inculding diving and snorkelling. There is also a fantastic beach for those who prefer to kick back and relax with a good book. It is also possible to arrange excursions to places of interest around the island, such as Jozani Forest to see the famous Zanzibar Red Colobus monkeys.
Transfer on Day 10 to Stone Town or to the airport, depending on your onward travel arrangements.
