This is a great safari combining big game savannah with lush tropical rainforest. Mikumi and Udzungwa National Parks work well together in combination providing a fantastic diversity of habitat and wildlife.

Mikumi and Udzungwa 5 Days Lodge Safari

Day 1: Depart Dar Es Salaam early and transfer by safari 4x4 to Mikumi National Park. Here you will settle into Mikumi Wildlife Lodge. This is well situated beside two waterholes with plenty of game to be seen from the bar. Afternoon game drive, dinner and overnight at Mikumi Wildlife Lodge.

Day 2: Full day exploring Mikumi National Park looking for lions, leopard, serval and other large game. There is fantastic birding in Mikumi and you will see many raptors during your stay. Based at Mikumi Wildlife Lodge.

Day 3: Morning game drive, transfer (lunch on the way) to the Udzungwa Mountains National Park. Here you will stay at Hondo Hondo Tented Camp in a luxury en-suite tent next to the forest. Udzungwa is part of the Eastern Arc range of mountains and is known as the 'Galapogos of Africa' due to its high degree of endemism. There are several endemic primates on site at Hondo Hondo and over 100 bird species may be seen.

Day 4: Hike into the superb primary forest to the base and then the top of the spectacular 180m Sanje Waterfall looking for primates on the way (including the Iringa Red Colobus and Sanje Mangeby which are only found here). Swim in plunge pools, see endemic African Violets growing in the spray zones and have lunch in the forest on the top of the falls. Descend after enjoying superb views. Return to Hondo Hondo for dinner and overnight.

Day 5: Morning bird and monkey walk along the forest edge at Hondo Hondo, breakfast, transfer to Dar with lunch on the way. End of safari.

Price from $1120 per person depending on your group size.

  • All the Parks visited are really wonderful, especially Ruaha and the "king" Katavi that worth absolutely the long trip (at least in our point of view). Yahaya and Salim are like two friends.

  • The programme was excellent and we saw masses of game, less a leopard! So, entirely happy customers. Thank you for your efficient handling of the whole trip.
