Mikumi & Udzungwa Lodge weekend
Combine the big game of Mikumi National Park with the eastern arc forest, waterfalls and endemic primates of Udzungwa Mountains National Park. Mikumi is also an IUCN Important Bird Area and is outstanding for raptor viewing. Udzungwa is part of the Eastern Arc mountain range, know as the 'Galapagos of Africa' owing to its high degree of endemism. Please note discounted residents rates are available.
Below is an example lodge itinerary (note other accommodations are available depending on your budget):
Day 1: You will be picked up very early in the morning (05.30 am - optional) and transfer to the Udzungwa Mountains National Park. Lunch in on arrival at Hondo Hondo Tented Camp. Settle into your en suite tented room before transferring to park HQ and the forest. Here you will hike through superb forest, looking for endemic primates on the way, to the top of the 180m Sanje waterfall and swim in the spectacular plunge pools. In the evening descend and transfer to Hondo Hondo Tented Camp for dinner and overnight. Hondo Hondo borders the park and has superb bird and monkey watching on site. You may hear leopard's 'sawing' calls in the nearby forest or the fuss of leopard hunting monkeys.
Day 2: 7.30 am morning bird and monkey walk before returning for an excellent breakfast. After breakfast you will transfer to Mikumi National Park where you will settle into Mikumi Wildlife Lodge, overlooking 2 waterholes and have lunch before going on a an afternoon game drive. You will return to the lodge for dinner and overnight. You will enjoy being secure in your stone cottage as you fall asleep to the sounds of lions roaring.
Day 3: Final morning game drive before breakfast, return for breakfast and packing up, transfer to Dar (lunch on the way). End of services.
