Riverside campsite is situated on the banks of the little Ruaha river. Riverside Campsite is located 14km away from Iringa Town, just a short drive from the Tanzam highway. As it is at altitude it is pleasantly cool in the evenings and you will need a jumper or a fleece most of the year. The campsite, with its small collection of thatched chalets and tented bandas, is a quiet and pleasant stopover during any safari. Within its woodland surroundings and beside the river there are lovely walks and quiet relaxing strolls, and there is also the opportunity for some great birdwatching (Pell's Fishing Owl can be seen here amongst around 300 avian species).
Riverside has a diverse range of activities available. There is a vollyeball court and it is possible to cool off with a swim in the Little Ruaha River. There is also the possibility of horse riding or mountain biking for the more adventurous.
Riverside Campsite is family run and the approachable experienced British owners are happy to share their extensive knowledge of the Iringa Region with guests. For those who are looking to learn KiSwahili this is a great place for a longterm study stay. Swahili Language Courses are available at Riverside for both the beginner and the experienced speaker.
This location is a very suitable location for those wanting a relaxing break away from the crowds and is particularly good for those traveling with children.
A stay here is well combined with a visit to Ruaha National Park or the Udzungwa Mountains National Park. There is also the chance to visit local villages or schools withing the area or one of the several community projects which are supported by the campsite.
